Stephen D. Cohle, M.D.
Thursday, September 24, 2009
9:00 — 10:00 am
Doubletree Hotel, Holland, Michigan
          Dr. Stephen Cohle

In more than 25 years in forensic medicine, Dr. Stephen D. Cohle has authored nearly 60 professional articles and a text on sudden death in infancy, childhood and adolescence.

Also to his credit, two true-crime titles:  Cause of Death: Forensic Files of a Medical Examiner and Skeletons in the Closet: Stories from the County Morgue. The purpose of these books, writes reviewer Jocelyn Steinke, is

“to bring the reader into the morgue, to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of forensic medicine” (Cause of Death, p. 13) and to show the reality of forensic pathology that is often obscured by preconceived ideas and pictures conjured by images conveyed in popular television dramas like Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), Crossing Jordan, and Law and Order.

Read the full review (free) in Science Communication: http://scx.sagepub.com/cgi/reprint/29/2/275.pdf

Dr. Cohle is also featured in several interviews on the documentary website Delayed Justice, which examines several local unsolved homicides.

Dr. Cohle is a graduate of University of Missouri/Columbia School of Medicine. He completed residencies in Ophthalmology and Anatomic/Clinical Pathology at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship  in Forensic Pathology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He is currently Chief Medical Examiner for Kent County, Michigan and practices at Spectrum Health, Grand Rapids.
